Avebury
introduction
This is somewhere I’ve been to many times in the past 25 years, usually to take friends or family when they visit.
In the past year of doing photography I’ve never really been inspired by Avebury but in this visit I used the sun tracking app to plan an afternoon visit which made the difference. It also helps to go on a quiet day as it does get busy with cars and visitors.
There are several things to visit within the area including Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, West Kennet Avenue and several White Horses.

For this shoot I planned the time of day that I was going and I knew the path of the sun. I used Google Earth to look at where I could get some pictures with backlighting or casting some nice shadows.
The only downside was that some shots were not possible because of where the sun was setting with respect to the terrain. There are hills surrounding the stones which masked some of sun as it set but planning the best time of day to go, made it a lot more interesting.
