introduction

Over the Christmas period I visited Bradford on Avon, somewhere that I have a family connection too a very long time ago. The last time I was there was prior to Covid. It’s a pretty town with a lot of history and a river running through it. The only downside is that it suffers with a lot of traffic passing through it. I remember attending a christening at the Saxon church when I was a boy.

Saxon Curches and Canals

For this visit I really concentrated on the river and waterways and left the Saxon history for next time. The only thing I will change for next time is to go when there is less traffic. This does make taking the shots you want difficult but that’s part of the challenge.

Photo Opportunity

The weather wasn’t great on the day I went, but this was also a scouting trip to see what was there. On a better day the canal would be a great subject to photograph as it dominants the town. The river was very high but unfortunately a week later it rose again and flooded the town centre.

I think on my next visit I need to plan what I’m going to photograph and perhaps even research the shots that I would take. On the whole I’m pleased with the results I got but it can be better.

I am getting used to the different modes of my Canon EOS 50D particularly when it came to taking pictures of the Swans. Switching to a mode to capture a moving target helped reduce the blurry images I had from previous outing shooting squirrels. I need to think about how to take the best pictures a bit more. I think planning would help.
