About Me

Hello. I guess I should start with a little bit about me, why I decided to do this, and what my aims are for this blog.

My name is Mark, and I live in Wiltshire in the UK. I’ve taken pictures on and off for quite a few years but decided to start taking it a bit more seriously earlier this year. I did a beginners Landscape Photography course, which provided a good base to start from.

Taking it more seriously

The main motivation for the blog is to provide a focus for taking pictures and provide me with a  new way to expand the creative side of my brain. That’s the plan, anyway.

I’m trying to keep an open mind on what type of photographs I want to take but a few different subjects are beginning to form. At the moment I’m trying to get out and take photos at every opportunity.

Cameras

I have two cameras at the moment,  a Sony DSC-H300 bridge camera and an iPhone. The Sony is a more recent purchase after my previous Fujifilm bridge camera died. I have to say, the Sony takes much better pictures.

I’m holding off on buying an expensive camera until I  know what type of photo’s I want to take.

Types of Photography

I’ve made a list of the five types of photography that interest me, with the aim of trying some or most of them. I already know that my current camera may not be best suited for some of them, but we’ll see what can be achieved.

Some of the types of Photography I want to try are:

  • Landscape Photography:
    – Scenic views of nature, mountains, forests, beaches, etc
  • Macro Photography:
    – Extreme close-ups of small objects to reveal intricate details
  • Night Photography:
    – Capturing images in low-light or nighttime settings, including city lights, stars, and nonstopprogram
  • Sunset/Sunrise Photography:
    – Beautiful scenes during the magical golden hours
  • Reflection Photography:
    – Utilising reflections in water, mirrors, or other surfaces for creative compositions

Hopefully you will find my journey interesting and inspiring.
